Fascia Review - Northville, Michigan

Summary

  • Fascia is a network of soft tissue that surrounds everything in the body and is what holds our structure together.
  • Fascia is made up of cells that are woven together to hold our structure and works together with muscle, tendons and ligaments for movement, performance and health.
  • Our environment (diet, posture, training, physical and emotional stress) all impact the way fascia performs and interacts with surrounding structures and organs.
  • Fascia has the ability to be elastic, plastic and remodel itself based on the environment.
  • Fascia has 6 times more receptors than skin and muscles and will respond to the stress that is applied to fascia.
  • Repetitive stress may cause fascia to remodel and become immobile due to micro-injuries, postures, diet, overuse.
  • Fascia can hold onto the physical and emotional pain we experience and works with the brain to sends messages throughout the body. These messages, stress and postures may reinforce the immobilization and densification of fascia, which acts as protection against a repetitive stress.
